Dental Laboratory Technician

Chief Purpose of the Position

VCU Dental Care is seeking to expand its team by adding Dental Laboratory Technicians.  These positions will join the VCU Dental Care team to assist our School of Dentistry Predoctoral Students as they continue their education, by providing dental services to patients within our community.  Our Dental Laboratory Technicians will help maintain and improve our patients' oral health by fabricating fixed and removable prostheses according to the dental provider's prescriptions. In our environment, this position will assist students with laboratory procedures by guiding them in basic laboratory skills including model and die work, and denture repair.  The duties of these positions will be comprehensive and varied including but not limited to; fabrication, repairs, models, and relines of the prosthesis. Our Dental Laboratory Technicians will also work alongside our Digital Dentistry team on Emax and CadCam fixed restorations.  VCU Dental Care and VCU School of Dentistry clinics' mission is to provide quality oral health care and educate students in a patient-centered, student-friendly, caring, and ethical environment based on the concept of mutual respect. 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required

  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-past environment with interruptions to workflow
  • Basic computer skills  
  • Excellent recall and memorization skills
  • Ability to multitask and work independently
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Understanding of infection control
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull, transport up to 20-50 pounds as a repetitive motion consistently when necessary
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods
  • Subject to loud noises on a regular basis

Education level and experience required

  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Training and experience working as a dental technician required
  • Certificate, degree, or equivalent work experience in dental technology required
  • Certified Dental Technician strongly preferred
  • Computer skills within an EHR system (Axium, Dentrix, Eaglesoft) preferred
  • Experience within an academic clinic setting preferred

Hiring range: Commensurate with experience
