Patient Care Coordinator - Faculty Practice

Chief Purpose of the Position

The Patient Care Coordinator will be part of VCU Dental Care’s multi-specialty Faculty Practice. The incumbent is largely responsible for the ideal patient experience, collection, schedule management, and appointment coordination. Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate appointments
  • Confirm patient appointments not confirmed via EasyMarkit
  • Review and correct provider assignments to patient accounts
  • Collect payments upon patient checkout / departure
  • Check schedule proactively and contact patients prior to appointments regarding costs of upcoming procedure/amount due
  • Act as liaison between providers/manager and patients

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Patient Care Coordinators must have exquisite verbal skills for descriptions of treatment options, building value, selling the new patient assessment, taking deposits and overcoming objections. Additional KSAs needed to excel in this position are:

  • Dental knowledge, and more importantly, an understanding of the dental philosophy of the dentist
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Organized, systematic, and with good follow-through
  • Knowledge of the dental insurance processes to help patients use and understand their benefits (estimated percentages only, not finite patient portion amounts)
  • Confident personality
  • Comfortable with asking for the patient to commit to a payment arrangement and collecting fees / processing payments
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm
  • Ability to think on his or her feet, on the fly, and with little preparation
  • Commitment to improving sales skills
  • Knowledge of dental office administrative procedures and principles of dental office record keeping
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to consistently deliver high level of customer service

Education Level and Experience Required

  • CPR certification preferred
  • College preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience preferred

Hiring Range: up to $19 per hour, based on relevant work experience.
