Patient Care Coordinator - Pediatrics

Chief Purpose of the Position

The Patient Care Coordinator serves VCU Dental Care’s Pediatric Department performing patient access and registration duties, financial consultation for patients, and insurance verification. In addition, because our practice is a teaching clinic, the position also serves to mentor dental residents/students regarding office operations and insurance practices. The position works on a team with other Patient Care Coordinators.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required

  • Excellent customer service skills and willingness to assist patients, students,residents, faculty, and other staff is required
  • Experience and working knowledge of dental terminology strongly preferred.
  • Superior telephone etiquette skills required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required.
  • Working knowledge of Windows-based computers and data entry skills required.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team required.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Ability to maintain multiple objectives simultaneously required.
  • Ability to understand and explain patient account financial ledgers required.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment is required.
  • Must be flexible to work schedule for varying shifts.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification required

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of customer service experience
  • College education preferred or equivalent applicable training or experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the health field preferred. {Dental background strongly preferred.}
  • At least 1 year of accounts receivable and/or insurance coordination experience preferred.
  • Experience in dental software, preferably axiUm strongly preferred.
  • Computer skills required, preferably with proficiency in Microsoft Windows & Office.
  • Experience in dental practice management software, preferably axiUm strongly preferred.
  • Computer skills required, with proficiency in Microsoft Windows & Office, especially Word and Excel.

Hiring Range: $17-$19 per hour, based on relevant work experience.
