Chief Purpose of the Position
The Patient Business Services Supervisor directly oversees specific revenue cycle operations for dental procedures performed in each of VCU Dental Care’s practices. Responsibilities include oversight of accounts receivable management (including claim denial/aged claim management, collections processing), insurance claims management, insurance policy data entry and verifications, patient billing, and billing or insurance inquiries. As a working leader, the Supervisor will perform some of these duties directly, including escalated account inquiries and complex issues regarding billing or insurance.
The position requires frequent effective communication with the Patient Business Services leadership team as well as each of the practices' staff. The role’s responsibilities also include timekeeping, training, counseling, and providing input toward regular performance appraisals of assigned team members.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required
-3 years relevant progressive experience required.
-Working experience using axiUm or Dentrix preferred.
-Thorough knowledge of CDT coding. CPT and ICD10 coding experience preferred.
-Thorough knowledge of dental insurance claiming processes.
-Working knowledge of dental revenue cycle management methods. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, or their Google Apps analogues, are required and will be supplemented with ongoing training and development.
-Superior communication skills, both written and oral.
-Excellent customer service skills, both internally and externally, and both electronic and in-person.
-Must be able to work in a high-volume fast paced environment (typically over 100,000 patient visits per year).
-Ability to both lead and participate within a team environment.
Education level and experience required:
-Relevant Associates Degree, or relevant education and experience required. Relevant Bachelor’s degree preferred.
-4-5 years working experience in a dental accounts receivable/insurance environment required.
-Preferred: Previous supervisory experience in a dental setting along with expertise using an electronic health/medical record.
Hiring Range: $47,476-$50,000 (based on relevant work experience)
